Body jewelry has been popular among young people for quite some time now. It is a mode of self-expression much like tattooing and other body applications. The most popular types of body ornaments are the ubiquitous bellybutton rings followed by cartilage jewelry and labret jewelry. One of the most ideal types of metals for body adornments is titanium, stainless steel, gold.

Implant Grade Titanium

Titanium is by far the metal of choice for body piercing jewelry, and can be safely used for initial piercings. Implant grade titanium G23 (Ti6al4v-ELI) is the type of titanium used in surgical implants, is biocompatible, resistant to body fluids and nickel free.

Titanium is also stronger and lighter than steel, which gives us body piercing jewelry that is both durable, comfortable and nearly without scratches. Titanium is an expensive metal, but well worth the slightly higher price. Titanium body jewelry is beautiful, it lasts, and will look (just the same after many years of wear.

Surgical Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is the most common metal for body piercing jewelry, and is just behind titanium when it comes to biocompatibility. 316L or 316LVM are the only two grades of stainless steel that are considered safe for wearing in healed piercings.

Keep in mind that even the best grades of stainless steel do contain nickel and may cause problems for those who are allergic to nickel. Some countries have banned the use of stainless steel for initial piercings, and it is best to steer clear of stainless steel altogether until after your piercing is completely.

Gold

Although it is beautiful, gold is not the best choice for body jewelry, especially for initial piercings or long term wear. Because gold is a softer metal and is made with metal alloys, there is a somewhat higher risk of irritation or infection.

Gold jewelry is beautiful, but should only be worn in healed piercings, and with care. Replace gold body jewelry with titanium at the first sign of irritation.

Bear in mind that different types of jewelry have different methods of cleaning, thus you have to be careful with your moves otherwise you end up damaging them.

If you have fashionable or customized ornaments containing gems and other precious stones, avoid using jewelry cleaning solutions or compounds on them because it will remove the adhesives, paints and artificial

gems on them, thereby damaging them.

Items which are 12 to 18 karat need minimal maintenance. To remove dust, oil and compounds deposited on them through constant use, you can clean them using water and mild cleaning substances. To avoid

scratching them, use only jeweler’s towel found in jewelry stores. Soak them about five minutes in the water with cleaning soap and dry them off using the towel. Never use bleaching solution on them because it would

damage them.

If you have silver jewelry which loses its luster, use only cleaning solutions suggested by your jewelers, otherwise you end up damaging them.

If you noticed tarnish on your silver items, let professional jewelers clean them for you because they know what to do on them and the have special compounds to clean them.

If you buy cleaning solutions for silver ornaments and you opt to clean them yourself, be sure to examine and follow the guidelines and steps on the packaging.

Never put pressure when cleaning bracelets, necklaces and other links because it can damage or can break the hyperlinks.

If you are unsure on how to them, it is best to let professional jewelers do the cleaning for you.

By following the suggestions and tips mentioned above, you can clean your jewelry properly.

Fashion jewelry also known as cheap jewelry and costume jewelry, is a low-cost alternative to expensive jewelry. Every woman wants a fine collection of bracelets, necklaces, pendants and ear-rings, and most have some exquisite pieces of genuine jewelry, but a wide collection of real gold and diamonds is not affordable for most.

This is where cheap jewelry comes into play. While it is true that, at the lower end of the market, much fashion jewelry is of low quality and is rightly called ‘junk jewelry’, it is also possible to get some beautiful cheap jewelry that can make you look rich and fashionable. These fashion jewelry (cheap jewelry) might not be pure gold, but will be gold plated, and will be much more affordable than luxurious jewelry.Cheap jewelry originally became popular in the thirties when it was used as a low-cost fashion accessory for specific outfits. Cheap jewelry was an immediate hit and has been hugely popular ever since. Often, cheap jewelry is made from cheaper materials such as plastic, glass, base metals, and synthetic or non-precious stones. Although some of the more expensive cheap jewelry will use gold plating, semi-precious stones or something else, and the jewelry are still very cheap.

These cheap jewelry can even make people think they are the real luxury jewelry. Nowadays more and more people choose cheap jewelry for the sake of cheapness and cost-effectiveness. Now that cheap jewelry can function as luxuries and much cheaper, then people have no reason not to choose cheap jewelry.

Promise rings are items of jewelry offered as gifts and are commonly exchanged between young people as a sign of their commitment to each other. They are also known as friendship or pre-engagement rings. The custom is known to date back to at least the 16th century and is becoming increasingly popular in this century.

The ring is not required to be worn on any particular finger but if it is an indication of pre-engagement – the couple are ‘promised’ to each other – it will often be worn on the left hand, especially on the ring finger. However, it often happens that the middle finger on the left hand or the ring finger on the right hand is preferred so it will not be confused with an engagement ring.

If the couple have agreed to marry but are not yet ready for an engagement, the ring is called a ‘promise ring’ and it is referred to as a ‘friendship ring’ when no promise has been made. It indicates commitment between the two. On the other hand, an engagement ring is usually far more valuable and may be a cost burden the couple prefer to avoid until they can better afford it.

The giving of promise rings by a woman to a man became increasingly popular during the 20th century, and since, to indicate his commitment. This was often a surprise gift for the man and he was able to show his acceptance by wearing it, or decline to do so.

The practice of giving promise rings was started among younger couples who were financially not in a position to consider a full-time relationship, with marriage and children. However, in more recent times, the custom has developed and is now common regardless of the social status and wealth of those involved.

Since the turn of the century, the popularity of these gifts has continued to increase and the rings are offered even among those who are still at high school. As well, the practice is widespread among college students and those who have recently graduated.

The rings can be of any design but often will include a heart which has symbolically been given to another. This is not a firm requirement and there are many styles to choose from, some being very simple and others involving gemstones and precious metals. However, the cost is usually fairly small and the appearance is not intended to be mistaken for an engagement ring.

There is another ring that has long traditions and a similar purpose: this is the ‘Claddagh Ring’, which has its origins in Ireland. It usually has a design which consists of two hands surrounding a heart and a crown above. How this ring is worn indicates whether the wearer is available for a romantic attachment, or not. If it is worn on the right hand and the heart faces away, the wearer is not romantically involved. If it faces inwards, their heart is not available, having been taken by another.

Modern dating couples have adapted a number of traditional signs to indicate to others – and to each other – the nature of their commitment. Promise and friendship rings are tangible symbols of the level of commitment that those in a relationship have declared for each other.

Silver and gold jewellery has long been regarded as the ultimate high-class object for ladies and guys. Although the prices our always less then desirable. Exquisite pieces have adorned countless stars, but these same pieces have been out of reach for regular hard working people.

But luckily in this day and age costume jewellery has become the ultimate winner. Because costume jewellery comes in different styles, colors and sizes. Costume jewellery is worn by every recognized celebrity out there and the price makes it affordable for anyone.

It is so simple to imitate celebrity styles now. With such a low-cost selection and so many places to purchase from you can find anything your looking for.

The best thing about costume jewelry in comparison to gold and silver would be the boldness of the designs. Gold and Silver jewellery I would say are generally plain and simple designs, usually known for its elegance. Costume jewellery however can alter the style of an outfit from elegance, to a party or wedding look. Furthermore the colours used are bolder and can be put together to produce something totally one of a kind.

Shopping online means any type of jewellery is at reach to everybody. Although you can pop to the nearest mall and buy jewellery which of courses provides you with instant gratification! Shopping online opens the doors to all the jewellery imaginable on all corners of the world, not to mention you get to kick back and relax within the comfort of your home.

From pretty ethnic designs to street wear you can find everything. Also the advantage of shopping on-line is that most retailers nowadays compare their products to celebrities. This makes it much simpler to be on trend with the most up-to-date fashion and you may also follow your favorite star.

Wedding jewelry is an important aspect of bridal wear. Many brides underestimate the importance of choosing the right jewelry. The perfect necklace, earrings, and bracelet can perfect your overall look. Read these tips on selecting the right wedding jewelry for your big day!

When it comes to wedding jewelry, old earrings go well with strapless gowns and low necklines. You can wear large hoop or chandelier earrings with bare shoulders.

If your outfit includes heavy ornamentation or puffy sleeves, keep the earrings small. You don’t want them to get caught on the ornaments or sleeves!
For a formal wedding, choose sparkly earrings. Swarovski crystals are always a good choice if you want something fancy. For a casual ceremony, sterling silver dangles or coin pearl drops are ideal choices.

Bracelet Tips

If your dress is elegant and stunning, choose pearl rhinestones or Austrian crystals. A vintage rhinestone clasp is a great choice for an old-fashioned dress.

Go with multiple bracelets if you really want to go all out. However, make sure they are light, as you don’t want them dangling heavily from your arm during the ceremony!

If your wedding dress is modern and short, you can really enhance your overall look with a dazzling diamond tennis bracelet. Just make sure the rest of your wedding jewelry has a contemporary appearance.

Sometimes you can find multiple pieces of wedding jewelry in a set. Keep in mind that they need to match your dress, each other, AND be convenient! You don’t want to wear jewelry that will get in the way.

This form of jewelry initially had a religious function, and dates back to the prehistoric era. According to Elizabeth Florence, president of the Jewelry Information Center, “The first charm bracelets were probably worn by the Assyrians, Babylonians, Persians and Hittites from 500 to 400 B.C. Those charms were made of lapis lazuli, rock crystal and other gems and were inscribed with small designs, such as figures of gods, man and animals. They were immediately associated with special powers.”

As time passed, charms lost their protective spiritual functions and became fashion jewelry. The 1890′s saw a renaissance of charms, especially in Victorian England, where elaborate and intricate jewelry was in vogue. Queen Victoria helped popularize the trend by wearing a charm bracelet of small lockets holding family portraits.

WW II caused another revival of charm bracelets in America in the 1940′s and 1950′s, as soldiers stationed abroad picked up charms as souvenirs in the European cities they visited and brought them home for wives and girlfriends. The fashion trend continued well into peacetime.

Charms still remain a popular jewelry item, as personalized keepsakes in an increasingly mass-produced jewelry market. Popular themes include horoscope signs, birthstone charms, travel souvenirs, and family keepsakes. Many women start collecting charms when they are children, and the charm bracelet grows along with them, reflecting hobbies and personal experience. A charm bracelet can hold a small replica of a graduation cap, wedding bells, or lockets with children’s photos.

Charms are also a popular gift because of their affordable price. An intricate silver charm can be obtained for less than ten dollars, though it is possible to spend hundreds of dollars on a charm made of 18K and set with gems.

Do not rush to a shop for purchasing body jewelry if you are not aware of its various aspects. In the absence of the right knowledge, you may end up buying a wrong ornament and you many harm your body as well. You should be very clear in mind about your choice of body jewelry. Make sure that you are aware of the specific names given to the different jewelry that is attached to the different parts of the body.

For instance, barbells can be worn on navel, ear, eyebrow and tongue. This jewelry can be purchased in circular, curved and straight. Or, you have the choice of buying banana bells that are also made for belly button. If you are looking for some body jewelry for your ears, then buy some captive rings, for your nose; you should be looking for nose screw, ring or a simple stud. For lips, you should ask for labret. Pincers, hanging designs and weights and spirals are other such jewelries that you can find out in a shop.

Correct size of the body jewelry is crucial. Since every part of your body can be pierced and there are different piercing jewelries for it, accurate size matters most. You cannot fit a navel ring on your eyebrow. Take a set of calipers to measure the jewelry to see if it will fit on the body part or not. The measurement is essential, as the shop is not going to take back the jewelry after you have worn it. If you are buying captive balls then its screws should be checked for tight screwing. You should not forget to check any such jewelry for dents and scratches.

What is it meant by costume jewelry? In a simple explanation, it can be defined as the jewelry which is made of less precious or valuable materials. Some of the material examples are such as metals, plastic, glass and even the synthetic stone. However, it will offer the great glitters which can replace the expensive gold or the other gems and precious metals. The costume jewelry is also popular as fashion jewelry.

It is inexpensive and flashy. People wear it mostly for stage costume and also other fashion purposes. So, it is occasional. Crystal has been the popular material too.
